Ridges Backpacking Intro Camp
Ready for 5 days in the Sawtooth Mountains, experiencing a different trail, a different area, and different views each day while returning to the comfort of your base camp each night? Then sign up for our Ridges Backpacking Intro Camp! It is just like our Ridges Backpacking trips except hikers will be doing day hikes and returning to your equipment and a camp van each night. You will make camp at your trailhead and hike with a light daypack. You won't be returning to camp during the week each night to shower, but spending time in the wonder of God's creation all over the Sawtooth Valley!
More than merely camping out for a week, the Ridges Intro camp is a week filled with the beauty of God's magnificent creation and most important of all, His Word. As with all Camp Perkins summer programs, Christ is the central theme of Ridges. Participants will grow closer to Christ as they discover a deeper understanding of His grace and love while experiencing the majesty of His creation. During the week, you will also get used to camping out, cooking on a stove, and hiking each day. Our hope is that after this week, you will be ready to take on a Ridges Backpacking trip next year!
Campers are encouraged to bring their own equipment, but Camp Perkins has backpacks, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, and other miscellaneous gear to borrow. All food and group gear is provided (First Aid supplies, stoves, tents, and water purifiers). Ridges backpacking trips are within most youth's physical abilities. However, being in good physical shape prior to arrival will make the trip more enjoyable. It is suggested that thirty minutes a day of walking, running, swimming, or some sort of recreation for at least a month before Camp will help ensure you have the endurance necessary to have a fun trip!
